The nonprofit Spirit of Waterbury is proud to present “Winter is the Pits 2” Firepit Fest on Saturday, February 1st from 2-6 p.m. in Hamilton Park. Last year’s event was designed to showcase the historic Hamilton Park Stone House Pavilion as the second “hidden asset” of our innovative “Hidden Spaces, Secret Places” initiative – an innovative program that rediscovers hidden or underutilized places in Waterbury and highlights their potential for creative reuse and programming in support of economic development.
Each Hidden Spaces, Secret Places event builds relationships with local community organizations, businesses and nonprofits. Partners and sponsors help support the event and are, in turn, promoted through the creative, social media marketing of the Hidden Spaces, Secret Places program.
The first annual “Winter is the Pits” Firepit Fest showcased a hidden pastoral corner of Hamilton Park surrounding the historic Stone Pavilion. Although known to local residents, this corner of the park, visible from the I-84, is relatively unknown to many city residents and visitors. Its natural assets and visibility from the highway make it a prime location for creative event planning,
Themed around fire and ice, Winter is the Pits 2 incorporates modern firepits, a large community bonfire, ice sculpting, music, food and drink, and creative winter outdoor activities. This one of a kind venue has proven to be the foundation of a recurring winter gathering destined to grow in future years into a winter festival that puts Waterbury on the map!
Funding is being sought to support local artisans and the purchase of firepits, wood, music, equipment rentals and marketing. Sponsorships are available at several levels – your sponsorship in support of the” Winter is the Pits2” Firepit Fest is tax-deductible and will help Spirit of Waterbury make this event a success. With your help, we will capture our hometown pride and market a contemporary, fun Waterbury to a local and regional audience!
